Joe Biden is set to sign the $858 billion national defense bill after the Senate passed yesterday to repeal the Covid-19 vaccine mandate for members of the US military.

The bill is $45 billion more than Biden requested for defense programs and 10% more than last year's bill, as lawmakers seek to adjust for inflation and improve the nation's competitiveness with China and Russia. This includes a 4.6% pay increase for the military and Department of Defense civilian workforce.
House Passes Defense Bill Scrapping Covid Vaccine Mandate
The Senate passed the defense policy bill by a vote of 83-11. The measure also received broad bipartisan support in the House last week.
To win GOP support for the 4,408-page bill, Democrats agreed to Republican demands to repeal the requirement that service members get a Covid-19 vaccine. The bill directs Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to rescind the August 2021 memorandum that established the mandate.

An Obama-based Army surgeon who previously claimed the COVID vaccine contained a substance found in antifreeze had the military ignore his warnings this week to fire him.
Army Lt. Col. Teresa Long, an aviation security officer and Army flight surgeon based at Fort Rucker, spoke this week at a Capitol Hill roundtable hosted by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin. Testifying under the Military Whistleblower Protection Act, Long downplayed his vaccine concerns, including efforts to monitor ground pilots for symptoms of myocarditis, according to the Washington Times.
"When I reported to my command, three pilots had to be grounded one morning due to vaccine injuries, my patients were canceled the next day, my charts were pulled for review, and I was told I wasn't there. Seeing acute patients. , just so much for the physics of flight. Pilots." - he said.
In the long run, he had two patients who reported chest pain after vaccination. Both were diagnosed with pericarditis, or inflammation of the outside of the heart. The Centers for Disease Control is "actively monitoring" reports of pericarditis after COVID vaccines, but the benefits of the vaccine "outweigh" the risk of "rare adverse reactions to the vaccine."
Department Of The Army Announces Updated Covid 19 Vaccination Statistics
Long said his concerns were ignored by higher-ups and that the military "doesn't stop" vaccinations.
"I made several attempts to inform senior medical leaders of this threat to Soldiers. My concerns were ignored," Long said.
A spokesman for the 1st Airlift Brigade at Fort Rucker told The Washington Times that Long spoke to the roundtable about his "personal strength."
The Hill reported in September that Long was among a group of doctors who filed an affidavit in support of America's Frontline Doctors, a group suing the Pentagon to end the vaccine mandate. "I cannot see how chemical (vaccine maker) Pfizer and the FDA can treat antifreeze as harmful to the human body," Long said in his affidavit.
